About Audrey
Audrey Babcock is an internationally acclaimed singer, master voice teacher, movement specialist, and founder of Back to Breath Voice Studio. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and California Institute of the Arts, she has spent decades working at the highest levels of opera, musical theatre, contemporary music, and international performance—including more than 200 performances of Carmen. That life inside a performing body has shaped the central premise of her teaching: the voice cannot be separated from the body that produces it.
At Back to Breath, Audrey treats the whole body as the vocal instrument. Her work integrates voice, breath, biomechanics, embodiment, and nervous-system response to examine how patterns of bracing, compensation, lateralization, injury, stress, and protection become embedded in the body—and ultimately felt and heard in the sound.
Her approach is grounded in contemporary, evidence-informed vocal pedagogy and enriched by extensive study across somatic and movement disciplines. Her training includes Somatic Voice Work™–The LoVetri Method, SOMA Breath, Pilates, Feldenkrais, Dalcroze Eurythmics, yoga, personal training, and wellness coaching, and she is currently pursuing advanced study through The Visceral Voice Academy. Her long-standing philosophy that the entire body participates in singing is also at the center of her academic teaching.
Audrey helps singers develop a sophisticated sensory understanding of their own instrument—learning not simply how to produce a sound, but how their body organizes itself to produce it. The goal is greater freedom, efficiency, support, resilience, and ultimately more choice in the sounds an artist is able to make.
She holds a BM in Voice from the Peabody Conservatory and an MFA in VoiceArts from CalArts, served on the faculty of CalArts for over a decade and currently serves on the faculties of the Musical Theatre BFA program at Cal State Fullerton and Voice at Cal State LA.
The voice is not a part of the body. The whole body is the instrument.
Testimonials
"Audrey has not only transformed my voice in the span of the last 3+ years, but also transformed my relationship with it and the rest of my body. Yes, her knowledge and expertise is unbelievable, but she is also just an excellent human being who really cares about her students, and is personally invested in their progress, their opportunities, and their lives. She has believed in me as though it was a given I was capable of great things, and has been a cheerleader and mentor as my own career in music has (slowly) unfolded. It has been a long road but Audrey has lead me to do things I didn't think my voice could do, and I get the sense this is really just the beginning. Start lessons with Audrey if you're ready for your life to change"Â

"Audrey is nothing less than fantastic. I've been taking lessons with her for the past 5 months, and I have noticed substantial progress in both tone and tension. I'm finally getting the hang of what engaging the breath should feel like, and I'm able to more readily notice a lot of the bad habits I've developed from improper technique. My technique feels much more sustainable and I finally feel like I understand the importance of vocal exercises and how to practice without creating tension."

"Audrey is a wonderful educator, she is constantly invested in my growth as a performer and has an endless toolbox of ways to help and develop the voice for all. She is also very open minded and kind. It is very easy to feel safe while working with her when singing can be vulnerable and emotional."
